  QUOTES 3/2016

I know everyone needs and likes to be inspired just to help get through the daily practice or just getting through a tough day.  I have been keeping a book for years where I write down Quotes, sayings, or anything I happen to hear.  I pick it up once in a while and just go through it and read the wisdom inside.  These quotes are not just from karate people or martial artist, but really anybody from history or in any walk of life. Here is a few that I have gotten along the way.

“ One thousand days to forge the spirit, Ten thousand days to polish it”  “ The way is in training”  M.M.

“Eliminate external distractions and concentrate only upon intention”  From the Bubishi

“You fight like you train”

“Fear is to warn you of danger, not to be afraid of it”

“During practice you should imagine you are on the battlefield. When defending and attacking you should make your eyes glare, drop your shoulders and harden the body. Now thwart the enemy’s advance and strike! Always practice with this spirit so that when on the real battlefield, you will naturally be prepared.”  Master Itsou

“Secret techniques begin with basic techniques; Basic techniques end as secret techniques. There are no secrets at the beginning but there are secrets at the end. The key to success is hard training” Toyama

TACTICS– planned application of techniques, to secure advantages.

STRATEGIES– to manipulate an opponent into responding in certain ways, so as to implement tactics.

There are no secret styles no better forms. It is simply the amount of training that one puts into whatever style he/she is learning. Each style has its strong points, none is better than another.

Hand techniques require the use of the body. The body generates the power and the hands serve as the instruments of contact.  From the Bubishi

When forced to fight theory and technique are one in the same; victory depends upon who is better prepared. When engaging the adversary, respond instinctively, movement must be fast and materialize without thought. Never underestimate your opponent and be careful not to waste energy on unnecessary movement. From the Bubishi.

“Skill cannot be taught or learned-it can only be acquired through long training and practice”Dr Friday

Diligent training cultivates an inner calm that enhances one’s instinctive ability to counter any offense.

“It is not techniques that win fights, but an understanding of combat principles and a strict adherence to them. All techniques are simply manifestation of these principles” I. Abernethy

ONE BLOW-ONE KILL  the concept is that with every single blow executed, it is your intention to end the fight there and then.

“There are no  styles of karate-do, just varying interpretations of it’s principles. People seem to place to much emphasis upon this style or that style, this teacher or that teacher, winning or losing, this has nothing to do with karate’s ultimate aim”   Kenwa Mabuni

Train with both heart and soul. True practice is done not with words but with the entire body. What you have learned with your whole body, you will remember for the rest of you life.

THROUGH repetition you build the confidence that the techniques will work, and you become a stronger person for it.

TRUE karate is rooted in the feet,it develops in the legs, is directed by the waist and functions through the fingers.
